Let us affirm our confidence in the Name of the Lord our God:
The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run in and they are safe (Proverbs 18:10).
The Lord reveals his character, his mission, his passion and purpose in the names and titles that he reveals. In his classic Theology of the Old Testament, Gustav Oehler writes of how the God of the Bible reveals his names in order to engage the needs of the people with whom he is in covenant: “In short, God names Himself, not according to what He is for Himself, but to what He is for man…” In other words, the divine purpose in God’s self-revelation of his names is so that the people with whom he makes covenant will know who he is in light of their deep need. (Oehler 1883, 125)
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:1, 2).
Lord our Refuge, we run into tower of your great name.
Bread of Life, nourish us.
Living Water, quench our desire.
Master Potter, form us.
Lord of the Wind and the Waves, make us bold in your name!
Lord of the Harvest, send us to those who will welcome You!
Everlasting Father, Grant us your eternal vision!
Intercession. Pray for those we love and serve to trust in the name of the Lord our God.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
